How it works

Journey Dynamics has pioneered a hybrid approach to traffic speed forecasting which combines the best from historic data (based on reality) and modelling (based on general behaviours).

By combining clean historical data with outputs from our proprietary Chronos modelling engine, Journey Dynamics generates a traffic speed forecast for every road link by hour of the day and day of the week. The source historic data is analysed for patterns of related behaviour, by vehicle type for example, and applied to our models intelligently across the entire road network.

This depth of analysis is central to the accuracy of the Journey Dynamics technology. Travel times can also vary by as much as 32% between cars and trucks, with the largest differences seen in less congested traffic. This
is because cars allow for greater driver personality than larger vehicles, as trucks as subject to many more controls including legal restrictions on speeds and physical limitations based on weight.
