TrafficSpeeds - APEX is Journey Dynamics Peak / Off-Peak speed forecast solution. Like TrafficSpeeds – Link Level, APEX is link level based, meaning a time dependent speed forecast is provided for every link on the road network. Link level forecasts are unique in providing true 100% coverage of any given road network. APEX provides a speed forecast that varies by the time of day and day of week enabling time dependent routes to be generated. Unlike TrafficSpeeds, which provides a speed forecast for every hour of the day and every day of the week, APEX provides forecasts for peak and off-peak periods and is ideal in situations where the resources available on the device are limited. By using a speed forecast providing Peak / Off-Peak speeds the overhead placed on the routing engine is significantly reduced allowing for faster calculation of time dependent routes. Also (as illustrated below) the reduced size of the APEX dataset makes it possible to integrate the speed forecasts directly into the map data leading to a substantial reduction in the resources and time required to calculate routes. APEX ships with a copy of TrafficSpeeds – Link Level (Journey Dynamics link level speed forecast) for use when post processing the route to obtain a highly accurate journey time.
